Mandatory Uniform Dress Code

Guidelines for Students

2006 ² 2007

 

For the 2006 - 2007 school year, students will wear navy shirts with khaki pants OR white or powder blue shirts with khaki or navy blue pants.  Neither royal blue nor medium blue shirts will be allowed.  No navy blue shirt can be worn with navy pants.  If there is Spirit Day on Friday, school spirit shirts may be worn with jeans. 

 

Pants/Walking Shorts: Navy or Khaki

  1. All pants and shorts are to be uniform style – straight-legged and hemmed or cuffed at the bottom. Flared-leg, Capri, or hip hugger styles are not allowed. Style may be flat panel or pleated. All pants and shorts should have belt loops.
  2. Jeans (khaki colored pants with brads) are not allowed.  Low-riding pants should not be worn.
  3. Pants and shorts should be made of cotton, cotton/polyester, or twill blends. No stretch fabric, spandex, nylon, or sweat pants.
  4. All pants and shorts should be devoid of labels, monograms, lettering, and/or logos.
  5. Pants and shorts may only have front pockets and two back pockets. Pants with pockets extending below the hip are not allowed. Painter or Cargo style pants are not permitted.
  6. Pants and shorts should not exceed actual waist measurement by more than two inches. Shorts should be within four inches of the crease at the back of the knee.
  7. A belt is required at all times.

Note: Belt buckles should be no more than 2” x 2” in size with no offending emblem. Only tan, brown, black, or navy colors are allowed. Excess length should not extend more than six inches beyond buckle.

 

Skirts/Skorts/Shorts/Jumpers: Khaki, Navy, or designated plaid (Blue & White by French Toast™)

  1. All skirts, skorts, shorts, and jumpers are to be uniform style.
  2. Skirts, skorts, shorts, and jumpers should be made of cotton, cotton/polyester, or twill blends. No stretch fabric, spandex, or nylon.
  3. All clothing should be devoid of labels, monograms, lettering, and/or logos.
  4. Skirts, skorts, shorts, and jumpers should be within four inches of the crease at the back of the knee.

Note: Skirts, skorts, shorts, and jumpers are permitted for girls only. Everyone may elect to wear pants and/or walking shorts.

 

 

Shirts: Solid Navy, White, or Powder Blue (excluding denim)

     *Polo, Oxford, or Dress styles only

  1. Shirts will be tucked in at all times, so that the belt is visible – no exceptions.
  2. Shirts and sweaters are to be uniform style. They should have no visible labels, monograms, lettering, or logos.
  3. Shirts must be solid in color, no stripes or patterns around collar, sleeves, or cuffs.
  4. Only solid white undershirts will be allowed. These should be devoid of any labels, monograms, lettering, and/or logos.
  5. Turtleneck shirts and t-shirts may only be worn as an undershirt – never alone.

Note: Students may not wear a navy shirt with navy pants.  Navy shirts should be worn with khaki colored pants only.

 

 

Sweaters/Cardigans/Coats/Jackets:

 *All sweaters, cardigans, coats, and/or jackets must

  be a solid color blue, brown, black, or khaki

  devoid of pictures, logos, etc.  No other color will

  be allowed.  All should be at least waist length.

 

NO PULLOVERS SHOULD BE WORN ON THIS CAMPUS AT ANY TIME. THIS INCLUDES ORGANIZATIONAL

HOODIES/PULLOVERS.

 

 

General Appearance:

   -Pants and shorts must fit so that they cannot

    be pulled down over hips.  Students will be sent

    home to change if they are observed with pants

    pulled down.

   -Hair for boys and girls must be above the eye-

    brows and above the collar (boys).

   -Boys must be clean-shaven.  This includes

    sideburns, mustaches, goatees, or beards.

 

* NO BRAIDS, DREADLOCKS, OR TAILS THAT EXTEND BELOW THE COLLAR WILL BE ALLOWED.

* ALSO, NO HAIR OF UNNATURAL COLOR (GREEN, BLUE, PURPLE, RED, ETC.).

* No body piercing will be allowed.

* Grills shall not be worn.

* Tattoos are not allowed.

 

IF ANYTHING COMES UP DURING THE YEAR THAT HAS NOT BEEN ANTICIPATED AND/OR COVERED IN THIS HANDBOOK, ADMINISTRATION WILL MAKE A DETERMINATION AND NOTICE WILL BE GIVEN.

ANY NEW JUDGEMENT THAT IS MADE WILL BE ANNOUNCED TO THE STUDENT BODY AND NOTICE SENT HOME TO PARENTS.

 

Shoes and Socks:

  1. Shoes must fully enclose the foot. Backless shoes, sandals, house and sport slippers are not allowed.
  2. Shoes must be brown, black, tan, navy, or white. Shoes may be loafers or tennis shoes, as long as they meet the requirements.  
  3. No student should wear red shoes nor red shoe strings.
  4. All shoes/socks/stockings worn should be matching pairs.
  5. Socks or hosiery must be worn at all times. 
  6. Socks/stockings/shoestrings should be natural, white, navy, tan, brown, or black - not the disallowed colors.

 

Caps/Hats:

In extremely cold weather, knit scull caps or coat hoods will be allowed outside on the grounds.  They must not be worn in any building. 

*NO baseball caps, do-rags, bandanas, or any other unacceptable head wear will be allowed at any time.

 

Required Outfit for School Trips/Programs:

Every student must have khaki slacks and a short-sleeve navy polo-style shirt for all school trips or programs.

 

School Spirit Day

Fridays may be designated as “Spirit Day”.

Any jeans may be worn as long as they are free from excessive design and embroidering, and do not have holes nor fraying.  Shirts may be WJHS school spirit shirts, or current WJHS school club t-shirts that have been approved by main office.

Uniform shirts may only be worn when in

complete uniform.

 

Note:

Jean (denim) shorts are not allowed at any time.

 

Jewelry:

  1. Earrings on girls must be studs or small circles. Girls should not wear over 2 pairs of earrings at a time.  Boys may not wear earrings in ears or on clothing.
  2. Oversized jewelry, such as rings that extend beyond the width of one finger, or bracelets, watches, and medallions with widths larger than 1½ ” should not be worn.  No chains or spiked necklaces should be worn. Absolutely no wallet chains/straps are permitted.  They can pose a safety hazard or distraction.
  3. No athletic sweatbands will be worn on wrists, head, or neck except when allowed during P.E., or other athletic activity.
  4. Girl’s hair accessories should match uniform attire. Ribbons and barrettes may be of hair color or navy, white, tan and/or light blue.
  5. Girls may not wear the stretch head covering.

 

*Measurements are given as a standard to be used when clothing or accessories are called into question.  Webster Jr. High School expects parents to play an active role in controlling their student's dress according to WJHS policy.

 

 

 

NOTE OF INTEREST:

 

Any change in dress code policy and/or general appearance policy deemed necessary by administration during the course of the current school year will be announced with notice in writing given to students with instructions to take said notice home to parent/guardian.

The student will be asked to sign that they received the notice.
